Super Bowl XX Champs: The Chicago Bears
Super Bowl XX – Chicago Bears won 46-10 over the New England Patriots. This game holds the records for the most points scored in the third quarter (Bears, 21) and fewest rushing yards (Patriots, 7). Ouch, Pats! World Series – The New York Mets win 4 games to 3 over the Boston Red Sox. The most memorable play of this series came in game 6 when Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner let a ground ball roll through his legs, allowing the winning run to score in the 10th inning. Poor guy never could live that down. NBA Finals – Boston Celtics win 4 games to 2 over the Houston Rockets. ’86 wasn’t a total wash for Bean Town. They won their 16th NBA championship and Larry Bird was named MVP. Stanley Cup – Montreal Canadiens won 4 games to 1 over the Calgary Flames. They did it with 11 rookies on their squad! On April 29, Roger Clemens of the Boston Red Sox became the first pitcher in Major League Baseball to strike out 20 batters in a nine-inning game. At age 20, Mike Tyson becomes the youngest Heavyweight Champion in history. He defeated Trevor Berbick with a TKO in the second round. At age 46, Jack Nicklaus becomes the oldest Masters winner and wins his last major golf championship aside from the Senior PGA Tour.
