Covenant Kids, the largest private child-placing agency in North Texas. The nation’s leading barcode solutions provider routinely supports area charities, including the Ronald McDonald House and House on the Corner.

When it was time to select a new organization to support in 2014, a System ID employee suggested that they take a look at Covenant Kids. The employee revealed that she was adopted by a loving family after starting life in an abusive home where she was often abandoned and starved as a result of her birth mother’s addiction to drugs and alcohol.
A helping hand
Founded in 2001 by Bill and Karen Lund, Covenant Kids places abused and neglected children ages 0-17 into loving, stable foster and adoptive homes that meet stringent criteria, including extensive background checks and months-long training programs. The
Christian-centered organization—which is licensed and partly funded by the
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) as part of their initiative to collaborate with private agencies so no child is left behind—offers a variety of services that benefit children in crisis.
In addition to offering foster care and adoption services, the 14-year-old agency conducts home assessments, counsels caregivers and children, and trains parents—before, during, and after placements. They are also experts in trust-based relational intervention (TBRI), a successful intervention program by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross of the
Texas Christian University Institute of Child Development.
“Our professional staff includes seasoned case managers, on-staff licensed clinical psychologists, and adoption, recruitment, and development specialists who work tirelessly to ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of the 377 children currently under our supervision,” Adoption Director Shannon Bouse explains. “And because we have on-call workers who respond to requests for emergency placements any time of the day or night, we literally work around the clock to ensure our kids have everything they need.”
Giving back
Gifts of money, time, clothing, toys, and products designed for children with special needs are welcomed by the well-respected agency with offices in Arlington, Dallas, and Plano, Texas. “We absolutely rely on financial donations, as well as in-kind gifts,” stresses Bouse. “In fact, without them, we couldn’t continue to serve families and organizations that depend on us for their survival.”
In November, System ID and Wasp employees donated new and gently used clothing for the Covenant Kids Clothes Closet. They returned in December with a truckload of toys that will hopefully bring a few smiles on Christmas morning.
But the company with a heart for philanthropy isn’t stopping there. For the next 12 months, they—and their partner Wasp—will continue to give back to the organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of area adolescents.
After all, they know first-hand the life-changing impact organizations like Covenant Kids have on abused children, thanks to their co-worker who survived her past and is now happily married with two children of her own.
